MPS Launches OnCinema — the New International Cinema Distribution Platform

MPS — the leading digital cinema services company in Europe — has announced the launch of its new cinema distribution platform, OnCinema, bringing together MPS’s years of experience in the field to offer a long-term, sustainable delivery solution to the industry.

To be launched officially in Barcelona this week at the CineEurope trade show, the OnCinema platform provides a seamless way for exhibitors to receive content and KDMs across EMEA. The launch marks both the consolidation of several of MPS’s existing cinema distribution products and the first stage in an ambitious expansion of the company’s services into one fully integrated pan-regional delivery platform.

Built on several core elements, OnCinema offers a fully merged ecosystem for the management of KDM and DCP delivery, as well as content tracking. The advanced technology on which it is based — including MPS’s proprietary LANsat distribution servers and the MPS Exhibitor’s Portal accessed by more than 17,000 sites — mean the platform does away with many of the manual processes through the ordering, content delivery and KDM ingesting stages on which the industry has been reliant since digital cinema’s inception.

As a market leader in KDM generation, MPS’s Trusted Device List encompasses 265 territories, 35,000 sites and more than 115,000 digitally equipped screens around the world. The latest version of KeyGen — the KDM management system at the heart of the OnCinema platform — has the capacity to generate more than 1.5billion KDMs a year.

MPS already delivers electronically throughout the UK and Ireland and, with the rollout of the OnCinema platform, will now be working with independents, chains and territory partners in a number of countries to deploy its technology more widely. Prior to the launch of OnCinema, MPS has installed LANsat distribution servers across more than 600 sites in the UK and Ireland, and successfully demonstrated delivery of more than 58% of all features content to those sites in the past 12 months.

Howard Kiedaisch, CEO of MPS, welcomed the backing OnCinema has received from the industry: “We are fortunate to have the support of a number of major studios and independent distributors for the OnCinema platform. As the cinema industry is now fully digital, the demand for the next phase of innovation is clear. Throughout its development, the premise of OnCinema has always been to add value to both exhibition and distribution businesses, whatever their scale, and we are delighted to be taking this first step towards that goal.

Matt Aspray, president of MPS, explained how the platform is set to grow: “We are confident that the OnCinema platform is the solution the industry needs to make widespread electronic distribution effective and stable across multiple territories. Now we are going to be working hard alongside our exhibitor partners, local distributors and territory partners to ensure that OnCinema delivers its potential.”
