Barco to Install its Flagship Laser Fleet Across All Reel Cinemas Screens in Dubai

Barco, which has been leading the conversion of digital cinema to laser illumination since 2014, is proud to announce another landmark win with Reel Cinemas, the dynamic cinema brand under Emaar Entertainment.

Earlier in 2016, Reel Cinemas installed an extensive fleet of Barco flagship laser projectors in The Dubai Mall Cineplex, making it the largest all-flagship laser theater in the world. Following the success of this innovative investment, Reel Cinemas is now adding 19 flagship laser projectors to its portfolio, which Barco Gold Partner CineTech ME JLT will install this year. In addition, Reel Cinemas has invested in Barco Escape, Barco’s three-screen panoramic movie theater.

As one of the leading cinema companies in the UAE, Reel Cinemas does its utmost to provide moviegoers with an incomparable cinema experience. That’s why, for its projection equipment, we choose nothing but the best. “As part of our continued commitment to provide unparalleled cinematic experiences for our guests, we invest in the most advanced projection technology: Barco flagship laser,” said Adon Quinn, ‎Senior Director at Reel Cinemas. “We quickly understood we had made the right choice and are cementing our position as a top provider for cinematic experiences with the additional Barco installations.”

CineTech DMCC MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA – a shared vision for perfection and a strong believe in laser.
Barco flagship laser projectors are designed to deliver brilliant, contrast-rich and super-detailed images to large screens at 4K resolution in 2D and 3D. In combination with Barco Alchemy ICMP, Barco flagship laser projectors can display 4K content at 60 frames per second. Not only are they the brightest projector series on the market, the projectors are also simple to install, operate and maintain. Their laser light source uses 40% less power than xenon lamps and will produce constant illumination for 30,000 hours or more, while cutting operational costs and time by eliminating lamp replacement.

“The superior image quality and reliability of this technology was obvious from the start,” says Peter Khamas, Managing Director of CineTech DMCC MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA. “Moreover, its seven-year warranty and Service Level Agreement demonstrates Barco’s commitment to long-term partnerships.”

Bringing new experiences to demanding customers
Differentiating their offering even further, Reel Cinemas also chose to invest in the Barco Escape immersive panoramic viewing format. Installed at the largest theater at The Dubai Mall Cineplex, Barco Escape combines a 170-degree field of view with all of the vivacity and realism of Barco projection technology, giving moviegoers the most immersive, dazzling and realistic cinema experience yet.

Barco Escape utilizes Barco Alchemy processing to deliver up to 120 frames per second on each of three screens. Theaters can be built to accommodate the format or easily retrofitted to do so, and are capable of displaying regular movie formats when the Barco Escape setup is not in use.

Barco flagship laser is becoming the de-facto choice for premium cinema
“Earning trust in 2016 from a demanding and innovative customer like Reel Cinemas was extremely fulfilling and a great testimonial to the superior technology of our flagship laser series. Being able to renew this trust and expand our installation to 19 more screens is very rewarding,” says Stijn Henderickx, Barco’s Vice President Cinema. “We are honored to be part of Reel Cinemas’ plans to elevate cinema to unseen heights and grateful to see that our technology plays a vital role in this endeavor.”
