The Meg to Be Released in the Panoramic 270-Degree ScreenX Format

Warner Bros. Pictures and ScreenX expand partnership to immerse audiences in one of the year’s most anticipated big-screen experiences this August
Warner Bros. Pictures and ScreenX, the world’s first multi-projection system that provides a 270-degree panoramic film viewing experience within a theatre setting, are expanding their ongoing partnership to release the epic, action-packed undersea adventure The Meg in the immersive premium format.  The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Gravity Picturesdives into cinemas worldwide beginning August 10, 2018.

With the addition of this highly anticipated title, and following the global success of the ScreenX release of Rampage earlier this year, Warner Bros. Pictures and ScreenX are building on the promise of the previously announced slate of major motion pictures coming to theatres in ScreenX, including September’s terrifying new installment in theConjuring franchise, New Line Cinema’s The Nun; director James Wan’s epic DC action-adventure Aquaman this December; and the first standalone feature for beloved DC hero Shazam! in April 2019, also from New Line Cinema.

“We’re looking forward to delivering this exciting slate of films in the immersive, innovative ScreenX format, and thrilled to team up with ScreenX again this August to bring audiences face-to-face with the biggest, most dangerous predator of all time in The Meg,” said Thomas Molter, EVP of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

“Warner Bros. Pictures continues to be a strong partner, and we are thankful for their commitment to ScreenX as we look to expand the reach of this new technology, which we feel will change the theatrical experience for the better in the years to come,” said Byung-Hwan Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. “As the number of titles available in this format continues to grow, along with our number of locations around the world, all parties – from exhibitors to moviegoers – will continue to benefit from the innovative ways we are working together to create unparalleled movie-going experiences worldwide.”

ScreenX has quickly enhanced its international reach, successfully screening Hollywood blockbusters and local feature films alike, including a record four Hollywood blockbusters released in ScreenX in 2017.  In the past 12 months alone, ScreenX has seen a surge in the number of ScreenX installed auditoriums, which have grown from 107 to 142, a 33% increase year-over-year. Additional screens are expected to be equipped with the unique technology across China, the U.S. and Europe in the coming months, expanding current total screens by more than 40% by the end of 2018. This includes the recently announced expansion with Cineworld Group in opening 100 locations across the U.S. and Europe.

About The Meg
Jason Statham (Spy, Furious 7, The Expendables films) and award-winning Chinese actress Li Bingbing (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Forbidden Kingdom, The Message) lead the international cast battling the Meg in the epic, action-packed adventure The Meg, from director Jon Turteltaub (the National Treasure movies).  The film’s international ensemble cast includes Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robert Taylor, Sophia Shuya Cai, Masi Oka and Cliff Curtis.  Turteltaub directed from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris and Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber, based on the best-selling novel by Steve Alten.  Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Belle Avery and Colin Wilson (Suicide Squad, Avatar) produced the film, with Gerald R. Molen, Wei Jang, Randy Greenberg and Barrie Osborne serving as executive producers.  Jie Chen, Ming Beaver Kwei and Chunzi Wang are the associate producers.

The Meg is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Gravity Pictures (a CMC Holdings Company).  It is production of di Bonaventura Pictures, Apelles Entertainment, Maeday Productions, Inc., and Flagship Entertainment, in association with Beijing Digital Impression (BDI) Film, Inc.  Diving into cinemas worldwide beginning August 10, 2018, The Meg will be released in 2D, 3D and 4D in select theaters, as well as in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, ScreenX, and other large premium formats.  The film will be distributed in China by Gravity Pictures, and throughout the rest of the world by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Entertainment Company. www.MegtheMovie.net
