4DX Continues to Dominate The 4D Marketplace by Inking Deal with Cineplex Germany

Innovative Cinema Technology Expands Into Its 25th European Country, Breaking Into The German Market For The First Time
CJ 4DPLEX, the world’s leading cinema technology company, announced today that it has signed a new deal with Cineplex Deutschland to bring the first 4DX theatre to Germany and expand its footprint in the European market to 25 countries.

Cineplex Germany operates more than 90 theaters across the country with over 530 screens, marking the theater chain as the country’s largest cinema provider and one of the largest leading exhibitors in Europe. The Cineplex in the center of Bayreuth has eight screens with 1200 seats, each equipped with a modern cinematic sound system, high-performance digital projector and extra comfortable recliners in the premium area.

Cineplex’s commitment to open the first 4DX in Germany is a milestone for both the format and the company, opening the door for future growth opportunities in Germany. With the first German 4DX screen, Cineplex acts as a pioneer in the field of technological advances in cinematic future trends in Germany. This extraordinary leisure experience will enthuse regular visitors and local film fans, but also attract technology enthusiasts and young audiences who are keen on experiencing more than “just a movie”, thus broadening both the theater’s catchment area as well as developing a market and attracting new customer groups.

4DX enhances the on-screen visuals of action-packed blockbusters, transcending the traditional cinema experience through special effects including motion-synchronized seats, wind, fog, rain, lightning, snow, bubble, vibration, and scents. The result is one of the most immersive cinema format in the industry, drawing fans into the action on the big screen.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Cineplex to open the very first 4DX in Germany” said JongRyul Kim, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. “It is an incredible milestone and honor, and this expansion wouldn’t have been possible without Cineplex sharing our vision in pushing the limits of what is possible inside of a movie theatre auditorium. Our goal has always been to provide a genuine enhancement in moviegoing, and we look forward to Cineplex’s audiences experiencing the sensations of 4DX for the very first time.”

The Cineplex Group always puts customer needs at the center of attention as its ultimate goal. All efforts serve the satisfaction of our visitors, in all aspects of service, comfort or technical innovations. Kim Ludolf Koch, CEO of Cineplex Deutschland: "We are very proud that our shareholder Michael Thomas is the first German cinema operator to have the entrepreneurial courage and foresight to install the 4DX technology in his flagship cinema in Bayreuth. We firmly believe that this special kind of movie experience will wow all audiences."

About Cineplex Group: In 2019, more than 90 cinemas will be united nationwide under the Cineplex brand. With a total of 25 operators at 66 locations and more than 530 screens, Cineplex is not only Germany's largest cinema provider, but also one of the largest groups in Europe.

Cineplex was founded in 1997 as a merger of medium-sized cinemas to optimize operations and joint marketing. The operators are predominantly entrepreneurs who have been operating the cinemas in their respective locations for decades. The oldest of our traditional houses is already more than 100 years old, numerous family businesses are active in the third and fourth generation. However, the vast majority of cinemas are located in state-of-the-art new buildings that leave nothing to be desired when it comes to technology and comfort.

No other cinema has opened more theaters than Cineplex in the last decade. 2015 and 2018, eleven new cinemas were opened. Continuous but solid growth, continuous modernization and renewal of technology and cinema as well as preservation of the traditional inner-city movie theaters characterize the market policy of the Cineplex group of companies.

Each year the Cineplex Group welcomed up to 20 million visitors to its cinemas. In doing so, we reached more than 45 million German citizens within a radius of 30 km each with our cinema locations. This corresponds to coverage of around 57% of the total population.
