Tim Burton's Nightmare in 3-D Bodes Well for 3-D Films

REAL D Theaters Support Disney Digital 3-D's Success
The Walt Disney Studios is benefiting from theaters equipped with the REAL D 3-D technology that has brought to life its re-release of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Having grossed $3.3 million on 168 screens nationwide ($19,500 per screen) in its first weekend, Nightmare in 3-D pulled in $1.9 million this past weekend, for a cumulative gross of $6 million. The film's box office success to date is a promising note for this year's movie exhibition business as well as Disney Digital 3-D's new banner.

"We are beyond pleased with the performance of this film," stated Michael V. Lewis, chairman of REAL D. "It is clear to all of us at REAL D that movie-going audiences are looking for unique ways to view and experience classic films as well as new titles in traditional theaters and multiplexes. We hope that the popularity of Nightmare in 3-D will encourage filmmakers to consider projects that utilize the REAL D platform and to see it as a plus for moviegoers and the exhibition market worldwide."

The popular stop-motion animated feature was converted into stunning 3-D using the latest advancements in technology and animation. First released in 1993, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas follows the earnest-but-misguided adventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's beloved Pumpkin King, as he attempts to take over the Christmas holiday. With ten songs by Danny Elfman, who provided the singing voice for Jack, the Disney Digital 3-D version of Nightmare also includes the vocal talents of Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Glenn Shadix, Paul Reubens and Ken Page. For information on playdate theatres and showtimes, go to www.nightmare3dmovie.com.

Other films that have screened in REAL D cinemas around the world include Columbia Pictures' Monster House and Walt Disney Pictures' Chicken Little.
