Christie Celebrates A Decade As Exclusive Digital Projection Sponsor for the Manhattan Short Film Festival
Christie, a global leader in visual solutions for entertainment, business and industry, is the exclusive digital projection sponsor of the 10th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival (MSFF), September 23 - 30, 2007. As a founding sponsor of the international festival, it will provide the powerful Christie Roadster HD18K one of the world's first native 1920x1080 HD 3-Chip DLP(r) projectors. The projector will screen the 12 festival finalists in New York City's Union Square Park on Sunday, September 30, where the winners will be announced.
During MSFF festival week, 99 venues around the world will screen the finalists, with audiences voting on their favorites. The films were chosen out of 456 entries received from 33 countries around the world. Entries are an average of 12 minutes in length.
Nick Mason, the festival director and founder, noted that the number of venues screening festival finalists have increased significantly every year. This year, venues include 53 theaters in the United States, 32 in Europe, 2 in Canada and 1 in Mexico City. "In addition, attendance has grown beyond my wildest expectations," says Mason. "We expect total attendance to top 40,000 this year."
Mason credits digital technology for the festival's growing success. "Digital filmmaking has changed the festival dramatically," he said. "It's more cost-effective to shoot and edit digitally, resulting in entries from a larger and more diverse group of filmmakers. Christie's support is vital to our success. Throughout their decade of sponsorship, they have ensured that the new generation of filmmakers benefit from the razor-sharp resolution, crisp images, and exceptional color that mark Christie projectors. Christie allows the filmmaker's vision to shine through."
MSFF spotlights the most important aspects of filmmaking - the creative and visionary elements that break barriers to reflect accurately our complex, modern world. By recognizing the people and the talent behind those films, MSFF increases interest in this unique brand of entertainment and opens doors to successful careers for many festival participants.
