59th Berlinale Kicks Off with the International on Barco’s Digital Cinema Projectors
Barco, a global leader in digital cinema projection technology, announces that the 59th Berlin International Film Festival has selected digital cinema for their opening night. Barco’s DP-3000 will show The International for the first time to the big audience.
The 59th Berlin International Film Festival will open on February 5 with the world premiere of the US-German co-production The International, the new breathtaking thriller from Tom Tykwer, also known from the much awarded films Perfume and Lola Rennt.
The International tells the tale of an Interpol agent and a Manhattan Assistant District Attorney who attempt to bring to justice one of the world's most powerful banks. The story takes them on a chase across the globe to cities as Istanbul, New York and even Berlin. With digital projection, the audience will enjoy a high quality film with consistent picture brightness, contrast and vibrant colors, giving an extra dimension to the action on screen.
Barco is the exclusive digital cinema supplier for this year’s Berlinale and provides the organization with three DP-2000 and three DP-3000 digital cinema projectors. In addition to the equipment, Barco also gives technical support for the whole duration of the Berlinale. Barco’s service team will assist the organization during the set-up and all film screenings.
“We are thankful to have the support from the Barco service team for the Berlinale”, says Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick. “Their expertise and dedication will help us give the audience the ultimate film experience”.
The Berlin International Film Festival takes place from 5 to 15 February in various venues throughout Berlin. On opening night, you can see The International on Barco’s digital projectors in the Berlinale-Palast and Zoo-Palast.
