Continuing to demonstrate its commitment to making its DLP Cinema™ technology
the technology of choice for digital cinema projection applications, Texas
Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced it will be demonstrating a
prototype DLP Cinema™ projector that displays 2K resolution and is capable of
projecting on the largest screens in commercial theatres. The 2K resolution
system is designed to broaden TI’s current DLP Cinema™ technology offering by
allowing its customers to develop a range of products intended to fill movie
screens of all sizes with the clear, sharp DLP Cinema™ image. TI will
demonstrate the prototype system to exhibitors and industry insiders at ShoWest
2003, March 3-6 in Las Vegas, NV.
This system complements the current portfolio of DLP Cinema™ technology-enabled
products offered by manufacturers BARCO, Christie and NEC Viewtechnology/
Digital Projection International. Texas Instruments DLP Cinema™ technology has
been commercially deployed for almost four years, entertaining more than ten
million movie-goers at over 110,000 shows in more than 150 theaters worldwide.
“We have worked closely with standards bodies and industry associations to
identify and meet digital cinema industry needs and requirements,” said Doug
Darrow, Business Manager, TI DLP Cinema™ Products. “Our 2K resolution product is
a logical outflow of the collaborative process that has characterized the
development of DLP Cinema™ technology- and we are pleased to offer another
product with the incredible clarity, contrast and brightness of our DLP Cinema
technology.”
DLP Cinema™ technology is the world’s only available digital cinema projection
technology- it has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the
theatrical community. DLP Cinema™ technology has been approved by the majority
of Hollywood studios as a format to show first run feature movies-- more than 50
major motion pictures have been released digitally to date.
