  • When logged in, you can access your Account Manage page by clicking on your email address under the DCinemaToday logo. 
  • A login account allows you to request edit permissions for your company listing.  This permission is granted on a request basis to authorized employees and business principals.  More information on requesting to updating company information is available on the Account Manage page.  Once authorized, the companies you can update will be listed in the Authorizations section of your Account Manage page. 
  • A login account allows you to set the order of the Market Focus tabs on the DCinemaToday Home page.  You can set any tab as your default starting tab. To do this, go to the Tab Preferences section of the Account Manage page   (Desktop only - not yet ready for the Mobile App.)   More user-specific features are under development, so we recommend you log in when possible.

Barco Raises the Bar for Cinema Image Quality with the Launch of its 4K Laser Projector at CinemaCon

Barco, Guinness World Record holder for the brightest digital cinema projector, is raising the bar for image quality with the introduction of its first commercially available 6P laser-illuminated projector at CinemaCon 2014. Barco continues to differentiate the cinema experience with its unique Laser3D technology. 

This laser projector is not only the most compact 60,000-lumen projector available, it is also the first DCI-compliant laser projector that is capable of showing 4K content at 60 fps and 3D movies in full 4K resolution. Barco will be installing its first 4K commercial laser projectors in the US and China during Q2 and throughout the rest of the world in Q4 2014.

“We were the first to demo a high-brightness laser projector in January 2011 and again at the Moody Gardens Digital Cinema Symposium in January 2012. Since then, we have been pushing the envelope to perfect our laser projection technology and build a fully integrated solution,” comments Todd Hoddick, VP Digital Cinema at Barco. “As image quality remains a key differentiator for the cinema experience, this is at the top of our priority list when developing new technologies. Our laser projector is the most compact 60,000-lumen projector on the market and will set a new standard for image quality in the cinema industry.”

No more speckle
Showing stunningly bright and uniform images with crisp detail and exceptionally rich colors, the Barco laser projector radically improves the 3D and general cinema experiences. The projector is unique in its ability to minimize speckle – even on silver screens – eliminating the need for a mechanical screen-vibrating system to achieve the desired image quality. Additionally, the laser projector comes with Barco’s brand-new generation of projector electronics. Enhanced with the revolutionary Barco Alchemy technology – also released at CinemaCon – it is the world’s first laser projector capable of displaying 4K HFR content (from 48 up to 60 fps) and 4K 3D content. What’s more, it can replace a dual-stacked setup of xenon-based digital cinema projectors and still offer double 3D brightness in Color3D, while reducing energy levels by 40% while eliminating the need to align and maintain two projectors. 

Fully integrated technology
Designed from the ground up, the Barco 6P laser projector features a fully integrated system with unified laser light sources that are housed inside the projector. Providing better durability and system efficiency than fiber-coupled technologies, this reliable projector ensures true peace of mind. The Barco Laser3D system offers maximum efficiency in color-based 3D from a single projector to provide brighter 3D and deliver constant and uniform images with excellent contrast and no lamp flicker.

Dolby® 3D and Barco Laser3D
The Barco laser projection demo at CinemaCon will showcase a giant leap forward for cinema, captivating audiences with unparalleled image quality. “Delivering an outstanding 14 fL brightness level in 3D, nearly no crosstalk, exceptional image quality and color performance, we believe laser projectors – paired with the Dolby 3D color separation system - will wow audiences with a 3D experience like they’ve never seen before,” commented Doug Darrow, Senior Vice President, Cinema, Dolby Laboratories. “The combination of the Dolby 3D color separation technology and custom-designed Dolby 3D glasses matches the six primary laser light wavelengths of the Barco Laser3D system to enable a truly immersive viewing experience.”

To explore all the ways Barco is elevating the magic of the cinema experience, visit the Barco booth (#2313A) at the CinemaCon trade show in Caesars Palace Las Vegas. As part of the CinemaBarco experience, Barco will be demonstrating its laser-illuminated projector showing 4K content at 60 fps and 3D content at 48 fps during multiple sessions from Tuesday 25 March through Thursday 27 March at the Cinemark Century 16 South Point and XD theater in Las Vegas.
