CJ 4Dx Receives ‘Cinema Innovation of the Year' Award From International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society
International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society establishes new award for 4DX in recognition of its role to lead the ‘future of cinema’
4DX of CJ 4DPLEX, the world's first 4D cinema company for feature films was presented today with the "Cinema Innovation of the Year – 4D Movie Theater: Motion Seats and Environmental Effect Equipment, Regal Cinemas LA Live Stadium 14" by the International 3D and Advanced Imaging Society (i3DS) as part of the 5th Annual Entertainment Technology and New Product Awards. The awards luncheon was held at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on September 24th.
In 2010, i3DS was founded by the industry's creative stakeholders in order to advance the creative arts and sciences of stereoscopic 3D and 4K. Six major Hollywood studios - Walt Disney, Sony, DreamWorks, Paramount, Warner Bros and Universal - are members of the organization which includes more than 1,800 professionals in over 20 countries active in improving the arts and technologies of 3D & advanced imaging.
The 'Cinema Innovation of the Year' is a new award that i3DS created specially to honor 4DX for their use of motion seats and environmental effect equipment. The award recognizes 4DX as the creator of a new paradigm, a new growth engine in the global cinema industry.
4DX opened its first U.S. auditorium at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14 last June 2014. Over the course of the summer, the 4DX theater has recorded an astounding 65% seat occupancy average, more than triple the industry average for U.S. movie theaters.
CJ 4DPLEX launched the first multi-sensory cinema named 4DX in 2009 as the first of its kind in the world. This Seoul-based company paved the way for marrying new technology to the best entertainment content, generating critical added value to an increasingly challenged cinema industry. As of September, 4DX is operating 115 auditoriums in 27 countries worldwide including the U.S., China, Mexico, Japan, Russia, Thailand, Brazil, Indonesia and many others, and it finally opens its first Western European site in Geneva, Switzerland within this year. Accelerating its expansion, 4DX is on target to have 300 auditoriums open by the first half of 2016.
"It is great honor to receive this award from i3DS, one of the most respectedorganizations in the industry. This recognition from a society of professionals engaged in both the creative and technical side of cinema innovation is extremely meaningful to us. i3DS has recognized 4DX as an innovation that is shifting the paradigm of the current cinema industry", said Byung-Hwan Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. He added that "4DX will keep striving to expand its auditoriums to more countries and regions so that it can play the role of a new growth engine and trend leading pioneer in the cinema industry".
