Avica Technology Debuts FilmStore™ Digital Cinema Player
Avica Technology Corporation announces the release of the Avica FilmStore™ digital cinema player. The product will debut at the upcoming ShoWest Expo, Booth 2013.
Designed for delivery of full-length feature releases as well as alternate content, FilmStore employs Avica's advanced technology Digital Media Platform that features compression and encryption independent hardware and software. FilmStore differs from every other playback product not only in features, but it is also the first offering that has been designed from the ground up with consideration given to the needs of both theatre owners and film studios. It can be used as a stand-alone playback device, or in a server configuration that will accommodate multiplex theatres with continuously changing storage, scheduling, and distribution requirements.
"The genesis of any new technology brings a host of issues into the product development process," explains Avica CEO Andrew Maltz. "FilmStore is the culmination of an extensive collaborative effort between Avica's product development team and motion picture industry leaders. We designed FilmStore to incorporate the features needed today, and enabled it to meet the technology demands of tomorrow. We are pleased that the product has generated so much excitement and we have already shipped several units as well as accepted advance orders from several key theatres in the U.S. and around the world."
"As the motion picture industry moves to establish standards for compression, encryption, distribution and display of digital cinema content, FilmStore offers the unique combination of intelligent design and flexible format integration. Responsible product engineering should safeguard customers' investments, and advance the natural evolution of design and technology. FilmStore is a direct response to the needs of this emerging industry, and sets a new standard in forward thinking design and manufacturing," continued Maltz.
Operation of FilmStore requires no special training or knowledge. Using an intuitive, straightforward interface, operators can start and stop playback from a clearly labeled control panel or with industry-standard automation systems. Content load-in can be accomplished using a variety of delivery mediums ranging from satellite feeds and broadband connections to physical media.
Avica's Digital Cinema Manager software allows separate monitoring and control of system parameters, security and playlists from local terminals or a secure network connection. Load-in, playlist creation, management and maintenance functions, including disk drive replacement, can all be accomplished without interrupting playback.
Continues Maltz, "We see significant opportunities for FilmStore in accommodating a new generation of on-screen entertainment, promotion, and special events that can provide revenue enhancement for theatre owners and other types of entertainment venues."
