Number of 4DX Seats in Operation Passes 30,000
Unrivalled Capacity in 4D-cinema Industry Worldwide Showing Fastest Growth among Competitors
CJ 4DPLEX, an immersive theater technology featuring moving seats and environmental effects, announced today that the number of seats in operation as of February 2016 has passed 30,000 and is well ahead of any other 4D movie theater brand in the world. The number of 4DX seats is nearly 3 times larger than the closest 4D-cinema competitor. With more than 30,000 seats in operation, 4DX theaters have the capacity to accommodate almost 55 million moviegoers per year, currently reaching 228 auditoriums in 37 counties.
4DX is the fastest growing company in the global 4D cinema industry. For 4DX, it only took 3.5 years to reach 10,000 seats in operation since it launched in 2009, while one of the competing brands took 6 years to reach the same number of seats.
China is the largest market for 4DX, holding 23% of the screens. There are currently 51 4DX auditoriums and 4,768 seats across the county. In Japan, the fastest growing market for 4DX, the number of 4DX seats in operation has increased almost 4 times going from 920 seats in 2014 to 3,568 seats in 2015. Expansion is also coming in Europe and Africa. Cinemaximum by Turkey’s MARS Cinema Group and South Africa’s NU Metro Cinemas both launched the country’s first 4DX Auditorium in the last quarter of 2015.
In the United States, after the first 4DX theater opened in June 2014 at the Regal L.A. Live Stadium 14 in Los Angeles, 4DX launched a second theater with Marcus Cinemas outside Chicago. This year, the two most anticipated theaters in the United States are scheduled to open in March in New York City in partnership with Regal Cinemas.
In 2016, 4DX aims to continue its rapid global expansion by looking to add 200 more auditoriums worldwide, which will result in 50,000 seats in operation by the end of the year.
