QuVIS Cinema Systems In Asia Now JPEG2000 Enabled
uVIS is pleased to announce that all QuVIS Cinema Systems in Asia, including Korea, Japan and China are now JPEG2000 enabled. These systems are now capable of playing current DCI Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) using JPEG2000, as well as the QuVIS QPE™ (Quality Priority Encoding) they have utilized for several years.
"The JPEG2000 enabling of our QuVIS Cinema Systems went very well. The support was excellent," said Eun Huh, CEO of Benhur Corporation. “Our customers continue to be very happy with QPE content. The ability to play DCI DCPs allows them broader access to features.”
All future QuVIS Cinema System deployments will provide this dual decoding capability, offering exhibitors the ability to present a wider variety of high fidelity content such as independent films, high quality advertising, sporting events and locally produced content. Outside North America, such content is often mastered in QuVIS’ QPE format - the same encoding technology used by NASA for its launch imaging. With the addition of JPEG2000 DCP support, these international exhibitors can now play first run Hollywood movies directly from the studios.
"Korean movies are mastered with QuVIS technology, and only QuVIS' QPE format has been used for screenings,” says Huh, “More than 30 Korean movies will be shown this year using QuVIS technology. With both JPEG2000 and QuVIS' QPE formats, we're very pleased to be able to provide more content choices to our customers, including MegaBox, CGV and Dong-Young Studios."
With its recent introduction at NAB2006 of the new QuVIS Cinema System 4K, with JPEG2000 support, QuVIS continues to push digital cinema technology forward. These new 4K systems also have the functionality to extract a 2K image from 4K content in real-time.
“We are very pleased with completion of the JPEG2000 enablement in Asia,” said Larry Jacobson, President of QuVIS’ Entertainment Division. “We strive to provide innovative features and functionality that enable the exhibitor to expand their top and bottom lines in both traditional and non-traditional ways. Innovation has been the driving force behind the industry’s only single server 3D and QuVIS’ 4K delivery. The pristine image quality of QPE and the functionality of the QuVIS players made them early leaders in the industry. The deployment of QuVIS Cinema Systems that are also JPEG2000 enabled provides further support for exhibitors investing in a long-term solution.”
