Sony Hits Right Chord Again with “Chickenfoot” Music Concert Event in Select Digital Cinema Theaters Nationwide

One Night-Only Digital Cinema Event on December 1
Sony Electronics is presenting the rock band “Chickenfoot” as the second in its series of digital cinema music concerts. “Chickenfoot” will debut in theaters on December 1, marking the first full live performance of the “supergroup” ever recorded.

The music series, a major part of an ongoing alternative content strategy by Sony’s Digital Cinema Solutions and Services group, is designed to give exhibitors more entertainment offerings to attract theater-goers during non-peak times.

“Chickenfoot” showcases the new band and its four superstar veteran musicians: guitarist Joe Satriani, lead singer Sammy Hagar, bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Chad Smith.

The digital cinema music concerts are being booked and managed in collaboration with Media Push Entertainment LLC.

“The musical credibility and virtuosity of Chickenfoot is unsurpassed and, for music fans, the fact that they can be experienced in all their glory through local market exhibitors in a digital cinema experience is a real entertainment value,” said Steve Sterling of Media Push Entertainment. “It’s the ultimate in rock ‘n roll experience in a high-quality entertainment environment.”

Last fall, the band released their first self-titled album. From the thunderous, ominous opening strains of “Avenida Revolution” (detailing the bloody drug wars in Tijuana, in which Hagar expresses himself deeply) to the album’s closing song, the shimmering rock ballad “Future’s in the Past,” “Chickenfoot” is a firebomb of a record, the likes of which no one has heard in ages.

"Making a record with these guys was a dream come true but playing together night after night across America was ultimately the best experience of all,” said Hagar. “I'm so glad we filmed this show 'cause now the tour will never have to end."

Shot in high definition with 5.1 Dolby Digital® surround sound, the Sony digital cinema music series presents exhibitors and music fans with a high-quality HD, cinematic, surround sound experience. Making the show’s presentation even more dynamic, select theaters will show the concert using Sony’s innovative 4K digital cinema projectors.

“Our ongoing goal with this series is to give music fans a unique experience of the highest value and in the highest quality, while also giving exhibitors a real business benefit,” said Mike Fidler, senior vice president of Sony’s Digital Cinema Solutions and Services Group. “This latest installment certainly fits the bill for what we’re trying to accomplish.

The program will be available later this year as a video-on-demand selection, for a 30-day period, exclusively on Sony’s BRAVIA® Internet Video platform for networked Blu-ray Disc™ players (N460) and BRAVIA televisions (XBR9, XBR10, Z5100 and W5100 series).

The theater venues are being booked and coordinated by entertainment industry consultants Evan Saxon and Doug Kluthe, working with Sony and Media Push. The “Chickenfoot” concert was produced by DC3 Music Group, LLC, a new multimedia company specializing in exclusive live concerts and behind-the-scenes content from multi-platinum artists to be distributed through multiple distribution channels. The live “Chickenfoot” concert will be released on DVD by DC3 in early 2010. More information and updates are at www.dc3global.com and www.rockpit.com.
