Sonoma’s Historic Sebastiani Theater Gets THX Makeover
onoma residents, independent filmmakers and visitors to the 12th annual Sonoma International Film Festival will be treated to a technology makeover at the historic Sebastiani Theater courtesy of THX Ltd. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the Sebastiani Theater has teamed with THX to make improvements to its cinema sound system in time for the festival opening this week.
THX outfitted the 300-seat Sebastiani Theater with an amplifier and subwoofer system, and rewired existing equipment to make better use of the power being supplied to the surround sound system. From a technical standpoint, the THX upgrades promise to deliver better frequency response and improved bass, while also being more energy efficient. For the average visitor to the Sebastiani, this translates to more balanced sound throughout the cinema auditorium, bigger, more dramatic sound effects and less distortion.
“THX is thrilled to partner with the Sebastiani Theater, which has anchored the historic city square and supported community arts for more than 75 years,” said Robert Hewitt, vice president of sales for THX. “The technology upgrades and complete audio and video system calibration will better showcase the works of independent filmmakers during the film festival, and will be enjoyed by Sonoma residents long after the festival crowds go home.”
As a major sponsor of this year’s Sonoma Film Festival, THX will present the “THX Award” to the filmmaker who demonstrates the most creative use of audio in a motion picture. This year’s THX Award winner will receive a THX Approved Mackie HR824 MK2 professional 5.1 studio monitoring system to further hone their surround sound mixing skills. The Mackie system is designed specifically to mix and monitor film soundtracks in a small mixing and monitoring studio. The awards ceremony will be held Sunday evening at the Highway 12 Lounge in downtown Sonoma.
The Sebastiani Theater will showcase a number of film screenings during the 12th Annual Sonoma International Film Festival. To find an events and screenings schedule, visit www.sonomafilmfest.org.
