Christie Vive Audio Helps Dolby Atmos Power Grupo Cinemex’s Cinemextremo Auditoriums in Mexico

Featuring First Cinema-Specific Single Enclosure Line Array Speaker Design, Christie Vive Audio Launches Next Generation of Cinema Sound in Mexico
Christie®, the world’s dominant brand in the digital cinema projection market, announced that Grupo Cinemex, the sixth largest cinema chain worldwide, is installing Christie Vive Audio™ surround sound solutions in their current CinemeXtremo auditoriums powered by Dolby® Atmos™ sound technology.

Dolby Atmos unleashes the full potential of sound by allowing filmmakers to easily place or move sounds anywhere in the movie theater with object-based audio to create a lifelike, virtual reality audio landscape.  With these installations, Cinemex becomes the chain with the largest number of premium auditoriums in Latin America to feature the unrivaled combination of Dolby Atmos and Christie Vive Audio.

Cinemex’s CinemeXtremo auditoriums feature giant screens, 100 percent digital cinema projection, and ergonomic seats for the ultimate in movie-viewing comfort. Christie Vive Audio, installed by Christie’s Managed Services team, features efficient ribbon driver technology and a unique parabolic line array design in a single compact cabinet to deliver exceptionally even coverage throughout the auditorium.

Each CinemeXtremo auditorium, specially configured to meet Dolby Atmos specifications, is being upgraded with varying combinations of Christie Vive Audio LA3 screen channel speakers, S215 subwoofers (for full range frequency response), S218 for Low Frequency Effects (subwoofers) channels, LA3S and LA5S for wall surround, and LA3C for ceiling surrounds.

"Cinemex is focused on continuous innovation, investing in the best technologies and most modern facilities. We are passionate about providing our patrons with the most memorable movie-viewing experience they have ever known,” said Rolando Maggi, director of infrastructure, Grupo Cinemex.“To that end, we are committed to opening new CinemeXtremo auditoriums throughout Mexico equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and we selected Dolby Atmos and Christie Vive Audio for their exceptional power and performance that ensure our patrons experience the magic of immersive cinema sound."

“Christie has always been a leader in Mexico’s move to digital cinema, and with the introduction of Christie Vive Audio, they again set the bar in immersive cinema sound,” said Ernesto Armus, general manager of Christie Mexico. “Christie Vive Audio is a premium sound solution at an attainable price point. In combination with Dolby Atmos, Christie Vive Audio provides exhibitors with a vibrant new point of differentiation.”

The complete Christie Vive Audio solution includes industry-first line array designs for ceiling surrounds, wall surrounds and screen channel speakers, integrated with unique subwoofers, and powered by Class D amplifiers.

“Christie Vive Audio brings a new level of realism to movies and represents the next evolution of cinema sound,” noted Craig Sholder, vice president, Entertainment Solutions, Christie. “The systemeasily integrated into any existing or new theater auditorium for a superior listening experience and gives exhibitors a competitive edge.” For more information on Christie’s new audio initiative, visit www.viveaudio.com.

About Dolby Atmos
Dolby Laboratories is equipping the cinema world with its new Dolby Atmos technology, the only object-based cinema sound platform available today. Dolby Atmos unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling by providing sound experts the creative freedom to easily place or move specific sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, not just where there happens to be speakers. The result is what moviegoers have described as the most engaging and lifelike cinema sound experience ever.

Introduced in April 2012, Dolby Atmos has been embraced by all the major Hollywood studios, six Academy Award® winning directors, and 12 Academy Award winning sound mixers, among others. More than 450 Dolby Atmos screens have been installed or committed to in 40 countries with more than 150 exhibitor partners. More than 100 films from 11 different countries —representing a broad range of genres from action thrillers and animated features to comedy and horror—have been or are scheduled to be released with Dolby Atmos sound since the first film debuted in June 2012.

Dolby Atmos has received technical achievement awards from both the Hollywood Post Alliance and the Cinema Audio Society. As the inventors of the only object-based audio format used in the cinema today, Dolby is working closely with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers in driving adoption of standards for object-based audio.
