Filmens Hus Has Pioneered the Ultimate Cinematic Experience – Investing in Sony Digital Cinema 4K Solutions to Offer the Best in Both Picture Quality and Sound to its Audience

Filmens Hus has always been an early provider of high picture quality and now they are going one step further in providing the very best in visual and sound technology combined. Once again, it has taken the lead and acquired the ultimate cinema system – Sony's 4K projector, the SRX-R515, and the Dolby Atmos surround sound solution.

This is the first time in Europe that the SRX-R515 has been installed with Dolby Atmos, once again proving that Filmens Hus is at the forefront of developments in cinema and is dedicated to offering a superior cinematic experience to its audience.

A complete cinema package
For Filmens Hus and its technical director, Jan Olsen, the movie experience has always taken centre stage. In 2004, when Olsen was first introduced to Sony and several other companies' projection technology, he was in no doubt that Sony had progressed the furthest in terms of image quality. Since then, his default choice has always been Sony. The latest addition to Filmens Hus' estate is the SRX-R515, which is installed in Tancred, its main auditorium.

"Sony has always been quick to offer increasingly higher image quality since its very first cinema projector, and has taken another stride forward with the SRX-R515. It is not only a market leader in resolution, but also in picture contrast. Since the dawn of digital cinema we have followed developments closely, and this is the best we've ever seen. Now that consumers have the ability to watch high quality video at home, it's even more important that cinema can offer something special—and 4K shown on the SRX-R515 is something completely different, quite simply it’s in a league of its own, says Jan Olsen.

Precise reproduction
In addition to the SRX-R515, Filmens Hus has invested in Dolby Atmos surround sound technology, which in combination with the Sony projector provides a unique audio visual experience for the audience in the Tancred auditorium. The Dolby Atmos surround sound system gives three-dimensional sound with speakers at the front, the rear, on both sides, as well as the ones in the ceiling.

"Providing high quality and ensuring the film is shown as it was intended, are our main concerns. If the film has been made in Dolby Atmos, that is precisely the quality we want to offer, and when a movie is made on 35mm film or shot in 4K, we want to reproduce this with the greatest accuracy in a digital 4K format. That's what we get from the SRX-R515. The contrast is extremely good; we keep receiving unsolicited feedback from film-makers and experienced cinema-goers in the audience commenting it really is the best picture quality they've ever seen," says Olsen.

The SRX-R515 delivers real 4K using a SXRD-based 4K panel and a 4K lens. The projector offers a High Frame Rate (HFR) at 48 and 60 fps, and a picture with a market-leading contrast ratio of 8000: 1.

Tore Mortensen, Business Manager at Sony Nordic is delighted at this latest partnership with Filmens Hus.

"Filmens Hus has been with us since day one and has always followed developments in cinema projector technology closely. They were early adopters of digital cinema and 4K, and are now the first in Europe to install the combination of SRX-R515 and Dolby Atmos. We are very proud and pleased that they once again have chosen Sony in their auditoriums.
