CJ 4DPLEX announced today that it is expanding it's strategic partnership with Wanda Cinema Line, the largest movie theater chain in the world, adding a second 4DX theatre, this time at the chain's Jingkai location in Dalian province on 29th of August. With this opening, now 4DX is available in 34 theatres in China, and expects to operate 54 sites with opening 20 more sites by the end of this year.
Since CJ 4DPLEX and Wanda Cinema Line opened its first 4DX movie theatre in Ganghui, Dalian in February 2015, 4DX has been gearing up to increase its market share in China after seeing the success in that location over the last six months.
The 4DX theatre at Wanda Cinema's Ganghui location in China's Dalian province has performed remarkably with high occupancy rates whenever the newest hollywood
blockbusters are released. In 4DX, ‘Fast & Furious 7’ logged an occupancy rate of 80% in its opening-weekend. ‘Jurassic World’, a huge grosser at the worldwide box-office, became a massive hit bringing with it a 70% occupancy rate in the first week. Furthermore, opening-weekend 4DX performances for local films such as ‘Monkey King: Hero is Back’ and ‘Dragon Blade’ have also been impressive, recording over 50% occupancy rates.
“It's a great honor that along side an entertainment giant like Wanda Cinema Line, we can bring 4DX to more of the Chinese audience who are fully enjoying being immersed in the movie. We strongly believe that 4DX will see sustainable growth in the Chinese market based on the latest performance we have already seen. We look forward to maintaining a lasting and strong partnerships with Wanda Cinema Line.” said Byung Hwan Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX.
The opening ceremony was held on the 23rd of August with a pre-screening event being offered to audiences to experience box office movie trailers with 4DX for free prior to the official opening. The opening title of Terminator Genisys, the Hollywood action blockbuster film, perfectly synchronized with 4DX, will be screened at the Grand Opening August 29. Moreover, the highly anticipated film, 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ will be released immediately after on September 8, having attracted a great expectation of a lot of Chinese moviegoers.
In particular, 4DX has introduced a new motion chair model equipped with more comfortable cushions at the Wanda Cinema in Jingkai, in order to suit Chinese moviegoers preferring the cinema to be a spacious and comfortable environment. The new addition, rainstorm, joins 4DX environmental effects, motion, water, fog, wind, air, lightning, bubbles, ticklers, scents and vibration. The new effect will create a more immersive experience for on-screen inclement weather simulations.
4DX was developed by CJ 4DPLEX and was successfully deployed on a commercial scale for the first time to the world in 2009. It combines moving and vibrating seats with wind, strobes, fog, rain, and scent-based effects, all of which are synchronized to the action on screen. The 4DX technology enhances the on-screen visuals of action-packed blockbusters, stimulating all five senses through special editing by a team of skilled editors, maximizing the feeling of immersion within the movie. There are now more than 24,000 4DX seats operating in 189 theatres in 34 countries.
