Ready for High Dynamic Range – Sony projectors give a spectacular HDR experience at CinemaCon

See the SRX-R515P 4K projector screening content mastered using EclairColor HDR process by CinemaNext & Eclair (Ymagis Group)
Sony Digital Cinema 4K confirms that its high-contrast SRX-R515P projector has been selected by exhibitor services specialists CinemaNext to showcase the revolutionary EclairColor Digital High Dynamic range (HDR) color technology at CinemaCon.

Content mastered in EclairColor will be screened throughout the convention using the high-contrast SRX-R515P projector in the Caesars Palace Conference Center’s Tribune Room. Accredited show visitors can reserve their demonstration at http://eclaircolor.simplybook.it

Offering light output levels ranging from 9,000 lumens to 60,000 lumens to suit every size of screen, all Sony SRX-R500 Series 4K projectors are ‘HDR ready’, offering an industry-leading average contrast ratio of 8000:1. Exceeding specifications set for screening movies mastered using EclairColor’s digital mastering solution, this allows exhibitors to present 4K HDR content with a dramatically expanded range of on-screen brightness levels – from eye-popping highlights to rich, darkly detailed blacks and shadow areas.

“Right now, Sony Digital Cinema 4K is the only manufacturer of affordable cinema projection equipment that meets image brightness and contrast requirements for presenting movies mastered using the EclairColor High Dynamic Range (HDR) process” confirms David McIntosh, Vice President, Sony Digital Cinema 4K Solutions for Europe and the Americas.

“HDR is the next frontier for exhibitors, adding an extra dimension of excitement and realism for cinema audiences. And the great news is that all Sony 4K projector owners are ready for HDR right now – without the massive investment demanded by other systems.”

Created by engineers from Eclair and CinemaNext, EclairColor is a proprietary digital HDR color process that optimises content for presentation at reference light levels of 30fL for 2D projection. This allows cinemas operating Sony SRX-R500 projectors to present movies with an expanded range of brightness levels for an impressive HDR entertainment experience.

Sony Digital Cinema 4K gives audiences an entertainment experience they’ll never forget in 2D or 3D.

There’s a complete family of Sony 4K projection systems to suit every cinema operator, from small boutique screens to the largest multiplex. All our easy-to-use projectors deliver true 4K resolution images that viewers love, bursting with rich colour and industry-leading 8000:1 average contrast ratio. Sony’s R500 series of projectors are also HDR-ready, meeting brightness and contrast requirements for screening the latest 4K movies mastered for High Dynamic Range presentation.
Spectacular 4K images are matched by impressively low running costs. The long-lasting HPM multi-lamp array in all our R500 Series projectors is more energy efficient than traditional Xenon lamps, reducing routine maintenance and cutting the risk of revenue-threatening dark screens.

A compelling choice for the big screens, our Premium Large Format (PLF) projection solution outshines costly first generation laser systems, with unrivalled 4K picture quality at light levels up to 60,000 lumens. Currently in development, a ground-breaking new generation RGB 4K laser projector from Sony Digital Cinema will give theatre owners an additional choice of light source for presenting HDR-ready images in 2D or smooth, immersive 3D on the largest screens.
