Cinépolis Cinema Chain Adopts DTS Digital Booking System
DTS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTSI) announces that Cinépolis, the largest cinema circuit outside of the US, has chosen DTS Digital Booking System (DBS) for the in-house exhibition management of its chain, comprising more than 1,400 screens throughout central America.
Mexican-based Cinépolis has 168 theaters in 52 cities throughout Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador and Costa Rica, is the seventh largest exhibitor chain in the world, and the largest in Latin America. The company operates modern theaters of the highest quality and technical specification, including six IMAX locations, across a wide geographical area. It will employ the full DBS feature set to manage significant aspects of its business, including film acquisition, theater operations, gross reporting, end-of-day financials and film payments, as well as showtime scheduling and distribution. DBS will integrate with the company?s enterprise accounting and point-of-sale systems.
Cinépolis had been looking for sometime to automate aspects of its film booking and scheduling activities, and DBS presented a comprehensive solution at a competitive price point. "It was the management and film payment aspects of the system that particularly appealed to Cinépolis," explained Mike Moraskie, Head Film Buyer for Cinépolis. "With so many titles and so many bookings, it gives the company a greater level of communication and control over its internal process, and places that communication on record. With so many theaters in very geographically diverse locations, DBS will assist Cinépolis in providing greater central control of its business."
A powerful aspect of DBS is the degree to which specific client requirements can be accommodated. Translating the Web application into Spanish is one of several customized aspects of the system for Cinépolis. The sale to Cinépolis is significant for DTS, both in terms of its scale, and as the first for a non-English version of DBS.
"We are very excited to be taking this product into Latin America," stated Don Bird, Senior Vice President, Cinema Division at DTS. "This agreement with Cinépolis highlights the potential for significant sales of DBS beyond the United States and English-speaking world."
